I Love The Philippines
I just mentioned in my last post that I have a blogger's block. Actually, it was just this morning that I mentioned that. I also mentioned that if something extraordinary happened, I might get out of my blogger's block. I guess that extraordinary moment is the State Of the Nation Address (SONA) of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. At first, the only reason why I wanted to watch it is to be prepared if ever our teachers would ask about it at school. During the first part of the SONA it was just one boring speech but when our president started talking about her projects and plans for the Philippines, I started paying more attention. I was amazed by all her marvelous plans and ideas. The main agenda of her SONA was the four super regions. She mentioned her plans in detail. She mentioned loads of personalities who have helped or will help her in achieving her mission and vision of the Philippines. At the first part of her speech, she mentioned that she will not be talking about Politics but rather the Philippine economy. I was also amazed by the fact that her SONA was hi-tech. It actually has a powerpoint presentation to emphasize here point. I remembered that in the last SONA, it was just a two-page speech that only lasted a few minutes but her SONA today was much much more. It was as if she was sharing every project she has in store for our country. It's as if the government was so transparent. To mention some of the projects, she mentioned this plan of extending the LRT to Cavite and connecting the MRT to the Monumento station of the LRT1. I was smiling upon hearing that great news. As a common Filipino, that would really help the common Filipino people. I just thought of all the MaScians who live in Cavite who commute everyday just to go to school and thought that that project would really help them a lot. Her objective is to disseminate the working population of Manila to other nearby provinces. Another project she mentioned was the road connecting Clark to Subic to Tarlac to Nueve Ecija. I totally believe that this project will happen because just last May, when we went to SM Clark, I already saw that the project was underway. There were also many linkage projects for the Visayas and Mindanao region. I was amazed by all her projects. In her speech, she did not really talk about the constitution change that she first mentioned in last year's SONA but there were tidbits about it inserted in her speech. Like the part wherein she mentioned that Mindanao has started to become a really progressive region which is a prelude to federalism. I actually saw Hope in her speech. It's as if for a brief moment I forgot that the Philippines is actually a poor nation. I saw hope in her. I saw hope in the fact that if all her plans succeeded and if everyone united to work towards her goal, the Philippines will prosper. I am a GMA supporter mainly because she's from Pampanga and my family supports her but now, I am a GMA supporter because I believe in her ideologies. I am a GMA supporter because she was the one who gave me hope that the Philippines can be a great nation. In the last part of her speech she said "For those who want to pick up old fights, we're game..." it was received by a loud applause. Then, she continued "..but what a waste of time." it received more applause. She mentioned that why don't they just be united under one common goal. I remembered in the former part of her speech, she also mentioned that there is another way to improve our country so that the losers of the elections will not let out their frustrations to the Filipino people. I totally agree with her. Why don't the losers accept that they lost. I remembered Atienza's speech last Sat. when we attended the 142nd anniversary of Mabini's birth. He said that in all the elections nobody accepted defeat. Nobody won and lost. It's either they cheated or they were cheated upon. The last part of her speech left me teary-eyed. She mentioned all the new so-called Filipino heroes. She mentioned that we have scaled Mt. Everest, dominated the SEA Games, won international beauty pageants, and punched our way to triumph in the boxing world. I felt so proud of all the Filipinos who gives every Filipino a reason to be proud of being one. As the SONA ended, I promised myself that I would not look down on our country anymore. I realized that I really love the Philippines and am proud and happy that I was born a Filipino. If I could do something to contribute to the wellness of our country, I would do it. I would not discriminate the Philippines anymore. I will be a better Filipino from now on. That is a promise that I will not break.
